Alternatives to AMC

Does employing your own in house association management make sense for your organisation? Much depends on the size of your association. Larger associations successfully employ 6 or more staff forming a coherent management team supported by overheads of buildings and equipment.

At the other end of the scale some associations are such small groupings that it is logical for members to run them on a ‘favour’ basis, although this is usually a transitory arrangement.

The vast majority of associations fall into that middle ground where one or two employed staff might be feasible, offering the gain of total dedication to the association. This route requires active management from the Board of directors and a willingness to use external consultants to provide the breadth of skills needed to run and grow an association.
